Winter 2012 President's Letter Print E-mail

Hello NY Racquetballers,

Even though the 2011 - 2012 season is drawing to a close, we still have a few great events left and they are outlined later in this newsletter. Don't miss the Free (to NY resident USAR members) Winterton Clinic or your chance for an awesome NY Racquetball Fleece at this year's State Single Championships!

In the news...the USAR has recently lowered weekend event passes from $20 to only $10 per event. This pertains to any tournaments with the exception of State Singles or Doubles, Regionals and National events. This is good news for our local tournaments. This is a good alternative for players who only play one or two local events per year.

NY State Racquetball will again award another $1000 scholarship for 2012 - 2013. Details/application is available here. If anyone would like to donate to the NY State Scholarship fund they can easily donate their referee fees at any State Event. Donations are greatly appreciated and the scholarship recipients greatly appreciate your generosity.

Twenty years from now there will be a trivia question that reads, "In what state did Kane Waselenchuk's streak of 137 racquetball match wins come to an end?" You'll all know that he achieved his 137th match victory in NY...but his win record was snapped on the 138th try here also as Kane was forced to withdraw due to injury. For all you trivia buffs, the previous record was Marty Hogan at 68 matches. (I'm pulling that from memory so don't bet the farm on it.)

It's junior time again...NY State is looking for 50 Junior players under 17 who are non-college players and have not already benefited from our Free Junior Membership Program in the past. If you have a son/daughter or you're a junior coordinator (limited to 5 freebies) you can fill out the information here. We will collect all the junior's info from now through July 1st or until we reach 50 juniors. These juniors will enjoy a FREE USAR membership from July 2012 - July 2013.

I hope to see you all around the courts and if you have any questions, I'm always available at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
